The 5 Most Important Social Media Networks to Boost Your Personal Brand

August 3, 2015 by alaahassan

Social Media Networks to Boost Your Personal Brand

I don’t need to tell how you important social media is for your personal brand.  Not only does it help you raise your brand awareness but also helps you expand your network.

The best part of being social is that it doesn’t cost you much other than your time.  I remember the day I decided to join them and created my personal accounts.  It was all new to me and  I had to literally learn everything from scratch.  Now, it’s a habit: login, post something or comment on someones picture.

Whether you’re just starting out or trying to improve you social presence, you must not ignore certain networks if you plan on being effective with your social media efforts. I believe it’s as important as creating a personal website.

Here’s a list of the 5 most important social media networks you should be using which will help represent your personal brand:

1. Linkedin.com

Linkedin.com Social Network

Use your Linkedin profile as your professional social media account.

That’s where you display your experience, education as well as your professional network within your industry.  Most of the time, I bet that your Linkedin profile will show up first on Google when someone searches your name.

Here’s an example of my own well-optimized Linkedin profile.

2. Twitter.com

Twitter.com Social Network

Consider Twitter as your headline channel.

Share a 140 character tweet describing something valuable or share content (image or link).  It’s pretty simple to use but also easily ignored since there are lots of tweets going on every second.  You need to post something multiple times a day if you really want to benefit from this network.

Use Twitter to post:

  • A blog post
  • An visual image
  • A thought or quote
  • Respond to other tweets
  • Share tweets from people you follow

Here’s an example of my Twitter profile.

3. Facebook.com

Facebook.com Social Network

This is where you display who you are, your skills & knowledge within your industry.

I love Facebook but it has changed over the years.  You see more ads, but relevant ones.  It’s a lot harder to get noticed since Facebook constantly changes its newsfeed algorithm.

Here’s an example of my Facebook profile & Facebook Page

4. Instagram.com

Instagram.com Social Network

Instagram is perfect to display the visual side of your personal brand using images and 15 sec videos.

I use it to share all sorts of things I do in my personal life.  It’s a great way of letting people know how you go about your daily life.  People love it since it’s very visual and instant.  I love Instagram because when you post something, you know for sure your followers will see unlike on Facebook where it’s controlled.

Use Instagram to post:

  • A delicious food pic
  • Pic of yourself at an event
  • Doing something related within your industry
  • Your passion (hiking, fashion, sports cars)

Here’s an example of my Instagram profile.

5. Periscope.com

Periscope Social Network

Although it’s the newest network out there, it’s being adopted like crazy.  Think of it as your LIVE video stream social network where you get to share the ultimate experience of being present with you at major events such as a conference or live interviews.

I recently created my account and plan on using it myself within my social media strategy.

You will need to download the iPhone app or Android app to get started on Periscope.

5 Effective Tools to Organize Your Personal Branding To-Do Lists

Tools to Organize your Personal Branding To-dos

If you plan on investing time into building your personal brand whether you’re trying to get noticed, land a new job or boost your current salary, you will need to be very organized.

Consistency is key when it comes to personal branding.  Depending on how your strategy is designed, you will certainly have to take on numerous daily tasks to help you boost your brand such as writing blog posts, reaching out to individuals within your network, engaging on social networks, requesting speaking opportunities and much more.

The biggest challenge is how do you organize yourself in making sure everything gets done on time as you had planned for it?

When I started working my own personal brand around 4 years ago, after discovering my true passion, I had a massive to-do list.  I wrote things down on a piece of paper, emailed myself some notes, used post-its all over my desk and utilized many online tools.  But the one thing that truly helped me was using a digital tool to help me better organize myself.

Here’s a list of 5 online tools for improved to-do list management you should really consider using:

1. Built-in Reminders in Smartphones

Whether you have an iPhone or an Android device, each one comes with its own reminders or to-do list app.  It’s easy to use and simple to manage and best of all, it’s

free.

5 Morning Rituals to Start Your Productive Day at the Office

July 27, 2015 by alaahassan

morning office rituals

It’s Monday and I’m about to embark in a brand new week full of tasks, emails, phone calls and much more at office.  Since I started working at BeyondTheRack.com, I feel that I’ve been much more organized since I’ve developed some new work habits.  It’s been just over 3 weeks now and I can truly say that I feel much more productive and accomplished towards the end of each day.

I decided to simplify the way I start my mornings and discipline myself in doing certain things that would make me achieve my daily goals.

Here are my favorite 5 morning rituals you should consider doing yourself:

1. Say hello to everyone at the office with a big smile

If you want to build a good relationship with everyone at work or individuals within your team, you must communicate with them on a daily basis.  One way to help you do just that is to say hello to them for thing in the morning.

Now remember, don’t just say hello and continue walking.  There’s no harm in having a nice smile as well as asking some questions like:

  • How are you?
  • How was your weekend, night or evening?
  • How are the kids/pets doing?

You don’t need to extend the hello to everyone but you can do so to one person a day. You do want to limit the time you spent talking since you have work to do.  People love sharing what they’ve done or how they feel with others.  All you have to do is ask and genuinely listen to them.

2. Get a cup of energy

What do I mean by a cup of energy? It could be:

  • a cup of coffee
  • a cup of water
  • a cup of fresh juice (smoothie)
  • a protein shake

Whatever it is, you need to get your organs going.  If you don’t eat breakfast, at least drink some water as it will energize you.

3. Write down the most important tasks on my daily to-do list

This is something I learned from a previous employee who used to work for me in my previous career at iNetVideo.com.

He used to always have a writing pad beside his keyboard where he would write down all tasks I’ve assigned to him throughout the day or week.  He was always on top of things and very organized whenever  I needed something done on time.

Not that I’ve never utilized a task list, but I decided to use the traditional way of writing things down rather than using a digital app like Evernote, Todoist or Basecamp to organize my to-do lists.  For some reason, writing things down made me own those tasks.  Also, having them right in front me was sort of a constant reminder that I needed to finish them.

When a task is started, I add a check-mark and when it’s completed, I simply cross it off.  At the end of each week, I would  move everything that’s not completed to the following week.

4. Fast Read Top Industry Articles

One way to stay up-to-date on what’s going on in the world of eCommerce, I make it a habit of reading top industry news & articles from the previous day or week.

Our industry is constantly changing and evolving by the minute.  If I want to ensure that I’m taking into account all those changes while working on my  projects, I need to spend some time on reading top headlines.  This is a great way of educating yourself and being prepared for any unexpected questions that may arise during meetings.

Here’s a list of websites I follow within the eCommerce industry:

  • InternetRetailer.com
  • Cnet.com
  • Mashable.com

A great tool you may want to consider is called Feedly.  It’s a great way of centralizing all your favorite blogs so that you don’t have to waste time visiting each one for the latest updates.

5. Breathe & Start

Now that I’ve said hello to everyone, got my energy up, written down all my important tasks and read the the latest news in eCommerce, it’s now time to get started.

That’s where I would read & respond to emails, attend meetings, conduct phone calls and do just about anything to complete all my daily tasks effectively while staying on top of projects.

This morning routine really works for me and so far, I’ve been able to move forward with my projects with ease and limiting the amount of stress that I have to deal with.

Try it!

What is your morning ritual?

How Planting a Tree Can Help You Succeed Before You Go to Sleep Tonight

April 24, 2015 by alaahassan

Why plant a tree

Stop telling yourself……”I will do it”.

Do it today!

A young man once asked a wise old woman, “When is the best time to plant an oak tree?” She answered: “Twenty years ago.” He then asked, “When is the second best time?” She answered, ”Today.”

We all have ideas and projects we want to start.

We all have a passion for something that we wish we could do for living. The big question is, how badly do we want it?

Whether it’s learning a new skill, starting a part-time business, blogging for fun or becoming a freelancer, you need to have a daily plan of action & just do it!

Are You Happy?

How many of you are really happy with what you do for living? I can safely say that 50% of you are not and that’s ok.

What’s important is what are doing about it if you’re not?

If you’re simply whining and complaining……that’s pretty sad 🙁

So What Do You Do?

If you keep giving yourself excuses ( I don’t have time, I’m married, I have kids, I don’t have money, I don’t know how – all valid reasons), that’s totally fine but are you putting an effort in eliminating those excuses? I’m not saying to get a divorce or give your kids away, but to actually do something about it so that you finally start what you’ve been wanting to do for a very long time.

I bring this topic up because I’ve dealt with this for the past 4 years. I love what I do being Vice President of iNetVideo.com (my full time position). I’ve been doing that for 14 years almost. Nonetheless, I’ve always wanted to have my own business. Unfortunately, I’ve failed at every attempt for the last 12 years.

Not only did I fail at it, but I’ve also gotten divorced, lost money and time.

Do I regret it? Not at all!!!! Honestly, I’m beyond grateful for having failed because it lead to new opportunities.

I met a person that completed me, I made more money by focusing on what I’m good at instead of venturing into the unknown and as for lost time, well I kinda learned how not to waste it.

How I Plant a Tree Everyday

It all started with me writing my thoughts in a small book and then started blogging about anything that came to my mind. From there, I decided to share knowledge with those that I felt would benefit from (Ecommerce topic). I didn’t have a plan yet, but I had a goal which was to find a new opportunity within my true passions. I did something everyday that would be bring me closer even if it was sending a simple hello to someone within my industry (great way to expand your network).

The secret is to get started. Just start doing something everyday that will bring you closer to your ultimate goal.

Oh and the other secret is CONSISTENCY.

Too many people start something with energy and determination only to quit after 30-60 days ( just like a gym membership in January).

Have a fantastic day!

How I Ended Up In the World of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

April 4, 2015 by alaahassan

I’m programmer. So how did I end up providing conversion rate optimization services to clients in eCommerce?  That’s exactly what I’m going to share with you in this post.

world of CRO

It all started back in late 2000 when I decided to jump into the most exciting industry — eCommerce. I just graduated from college in Computer Science Technology and figured that this is where I should be focusing my energy.

Fast forward 13 years, I landed in the world of Conversion Rate Optimization May 30, 2014. For years, I’ve been improving every aspect of our online business including CRO, but never really went deep in it.

I think what really played a big role in this decision is the fact that I recently launched my web agency thinking that online marketing is where I can find new opportunities. But when I started working with clients, I noticed how saturated the market was and the fact that there was nothing unique about my firm, I figured I really had to change my strategy.

I wanted to offer a service that companies really needed but don’t have the time nor the experience or patience to deal with. I wanted something that can bring ROI for years and not just 1 month.

I wanted to bring value that was unique. I wanted to deal with all aspects of online business and not just marketing or SEO.

Hence, I discovered CRO!

Now, I offer conversion rate optimization services & CRO Training.
